This summer saw the launch of the “Dog Days” APDT Dog Training Classes. So far over twenty dogs and their handlers have enrolled onto one of the courses and many of them would like to be assessed for an award. It can take over an hour to complete the full assessment and as we don’t want to take time away from the classes we have decided to have a Test Day.
The Test Day will take place from 10am on Saturday 30th November 2013 at the North Valley Community Centre, Birtwistle Avenue, Colne. Anyone who has enrolled on one of the Foundation courses can attend and have a go at the test. There is a charge of £5 per entry to cover our costs for the day. There will be limited places so contact one of the Dog Days team to book a place by calling 07980 378 761.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the APDT Awards, dogs and handlers have to show that their dogs will come back when called, first time and that their dog understands sit, down and stand. Again the dogs must respond to their cues first time, not as easy as it sounds! There are then tests in “Self Control” which means being polite around food and toys and the final section involves a stay, a wait and a retrieve. A lot for most dogs but many of those taking the test will be under 1 year old so we are keeping our fingers, and paws, crossed for them.
